How-to: Connect X-Lite to a FortiVoice System

X-Lite is a free SIP softphone by CounterPoint that I use for testing SIP extensions on VOIP systems. The below steps detail how you would configure a FortiVoice (formerly TalkSwitch) as well as X-Lite.
Firstly we'll create a user in the FortiVoice system. Goto Extensions and Voicemail > Local Extenstions / Fax and click on the 'Add' button.

Click 'Next' for IP Extension, then fill out the user details (leave the manufacturer as 'Other'). Click 'Finish' to save.

Your user should now be created and populated with a password. Take note of the extension number and password here (best practice to change this password).

When you've finished click on File > Save to save the configuration to the FortiVoice.

Now open X-Lite and goto Softphone > Account Settings. Fill in the settings as per below:

User ID: Extension number
Domain: IP address of the FortiVoice
Password: The password we configured for the user (this example its pass101)
Display Name: Any name you'd like to display on the X-Lite console
Authorization Name: Your username on the FortiVoice

X-Lite should now be connected and you can start making/receiving calls!
